29 July 2012

Domestic Sunday
Horrifying Papa
By shopping for a new TV in the mall.

(Needless to say, Papa does the shopping
And the rest of us run haywire in the aisles and playground!)

28 July 2012

Gran's 80th birthday party!

Miro loves running in the garden in his socks,
Eating chocolate cake, collecting stickers,
And jumping on the castle...

27 July 2012

The huge anticipation
Of Papa opening his birthday card...

26 July 2012

Chocolate muffins,
Best enjoyed after pre-school
In the garden, before the sun goes down.

(Bastien is not so happy to be there!)

25 July 2012

Lunch in windy, chilly Goulburn,
Breaking the drive back home...

24 July 2012

At the Skye Motel in Holbrook
Miro is surprised at the stony garden that is his playground
Until we suggest that it is a moonscape to ride his buggy along...

He and Tai steal little milks from the fridge,
Slurping and always going back for more.
But then a big bottle is discovered!

23 July 2012

Making little piles of leaves,
Throwing stones into the rock garden
And balancing on public bicycles
While we luncheon at South Wharf.

22 July 2012

Miro in a sunset exploration of Brighton's bathing boxes...

And earlier, chilling with the big boys
And loving little brothers
At Nanna's birthday celebration.

21 July 2012

Searching for guinea pigs at the Children's Farm
But only finding a friendly horse, some pig bums,
Docile goats and fretting sheep.

Later, Miro is ecstatic
When he and Matai are allowed to explore
The maze of vegetable gardens on their own
And likes it so much that he asks to do it twice!

After, we have delicious carrot cakes at Julia and Matt's place
And Julie finds some very funny costumes for the boys to try for size!

20 July 2012

After spending a whole week reading the same three books
Miro is besotted by the new tales we buy from the book market
And spends contented moments reading about knights, dragons and moon kangaroos.

And earlier, playing on the stairs at Aunty Gen's place.

19 July 2012

Miro visits the Scienceworks.
He loves it and asks to go again one day.

18 July 2012

The boys are enraptured
By the secret community garden
We discover hidden behind Neptune Street in St Kilda.

They spend a happy hour climbing, swinging, chasing and laughing
While the scent of potatoes and rosemary warms the air
From the vegetable garden, and then to the nearby canteen.

17 June 2012

Brisk swift morning at Albert Park
Followed by much laughter, chatter and twirling at Oscars!

16 July 2012

Mud pies and leaping lizards!

15 July 2012

Flowers for Mummy
As we walk to the cafe
With Reuben, Otto, Anna and Nicholas.

14 July 2012

Miroban at the Musee.
Discoveries with Oscar
(Who he persistently calls "Reuben"!)
And fascinating geometria with mirrors.

13 July 2012

Afternoon, we walk to Harbourtown
And discover a Wonderland fairground.
Miro is ecstatic, skips the queue
(No one notices a very little boy walking right to the front of the line!)
And full of confidence, lets them blow up a big ball around him
Where he can spend the next five minutes running like a hamster on the water.

Later, we ride the roller coaster, the teacups,
And see the crazy circus show.
Miro also has his very own barbe a papa !

12 July 2012

A thrilling expedition into the city
Where we play at the National Gallery, ACMI,
Then chippies across the road, and Brunetti's on the way home.

As we're stopped in glowing raindrop traffic, Miro says:
"I love living in Melbourne, Mummy.
There's trams, and museums, and I love trams.
And I love museums!"

11 July 2012

At birthday lunch with Auntie Sloane
Miro begs for garlic bread, and eagerly assists
The unwrapping of glamourous slippers!

10 July 2012

On a grey wintery Melbourne day, we walk from Docklands
Into the city, eating melting moments and planning our next big
Ice Chocolate. But half way there,
Miro gets sore legs! He doesn't want to walk
And only the promise of a tram ride later on firms his resolve.

(The tram is totally worth it.)

9 July 2012

We wake to a blanket of ice
In morning Yass. Miro blows steam clouds
And we later get stuck trying to get out the driveway,
Much to his fascination...

Later, we stop at a small town for sausage rolls
And play on the submarine equipment. It's really too good!

But just when we think it can't be topped,
Tai and Miro find their favourite slippery slide ever
At Wangaratta.

And all sorts of other fantastic playground equipment too!

8 July 2012

Amazed by the timezone games at Archie's bowling birthday party
Means Miro is more impressed than this room than by actual bowling!

Later, we drive three hours to Yass
Where Miro and Tai jump their sillies out in the 50s-style motel room...

7 July 2012

Mini bus all loaded up!

6 July 2012

Escaping the chill of our big house
In Nanna's toasty toaster.

5 July 2012

Miro demonstrating some of the many phases of French tongue
(And the little sores that come from sticking it out too often!)

4 July 2012

Cupcakes for Archie's birthday
Along with babycinos
To warm us from the frigid wind.

Then jumping - and stretching - castle
With the gang in the garden...
Hiding in the jungle;
Removing branches bum-cheek by bum-cheek.

3 July 2012

Swinging around in Nanny and Din's back garden
On a sunny wintery July day.

2 July 2012

Asking for (and getting!) bread with butter and Vegemite;
Sitting at Granny and Pop's counter-top.

1 July 2012

Watching Miriam sing with the African band,
Miro is awe-struck by finally seeing a glimpse of "Africa"
After two months of asking to see it on the map,
To go there, whether we are there,
And all sorts of questions about the people who live there.
