Parents push prams onto the shore
And children rush in sunset squeals
Dropping sand onto their perfect parents,
Dripping apples into their towels.
Miro races Daddy to the water and abruptly
Clings when he realises its cold.
But after, spends an hour
Clothes-less in the brisk evening
Poking around the rocks
While Daddy trails with t-shirt at the ready...

And are slightly overawed by the dancing, clapping masses of children
They find in the Playgroup centre.
After, Miro has his face painted with a lapin
But is too overwhelmed to be thrilled at the result!

Miro chases the White Rabbit barefoot on a Sunday Art run,
Becomes frightened at glass elevators that move like silk,
And suddenly blossoms into the kind of boy
Who helps stack the dishwasher, offers Mummy his food before eating,
And speaks his ideas in two words.

Miro's feet become begrimed with days of dirt.
One strawberry thickshake and fried rice later,
The rain begins to pelter from the sky
And Miro, twirling his hair, falls asleep to the rhythm of the pram.
